North Dakota

To vote in North Dakota you must:

• Be a U.S citizen
• Be a resident of North Dakota and your election district for at least 30 days before the next election
• Be at least 18 years old on the day of the next election
• Not in prison for a felony (or, if so, have had your civil rights restored)
• Not judged mentally incompetent in a court of law

North Dakota does not require voter registration. You can vote in person at a polling place on Election Day. Once you check in at a polling location, your voter record is updated to show you have voted.

North Dakota is the only state without voter registration as their Voter ID law requires a valid form of ID to vote. Acceptable forms of ID are:

• North Dakota Driver’s license
• North Dakota Nondriver’s identification card
• Tribal government issued identification (including those issued by BIA for a tribe located in North Dakota, any other tribal agency or entity, or any other document that sets forth the tribal member’s name, date of birth, and current North Dakota residential address)
• Long term care identification certificate (provided by North Dakota facility)

Voters without ID may be able to vote provisionally.
