Who can register to vote in Nebraska?
To register to vote in Nebraska you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Live in Nebraska and in your election district
- Be at least 18 years old on the day of the next election
- Not convicted of a felony (or, if so, have had your civil rights restored)
- Not judged mentally incompetent in a court of law
Can I register to vote on Election Day?
Nebraska does not offer same-day voter registration, so be sure to submit your voter registration before the deadline.
What are the voter registration deadlines?
- To submit your voter registration by mail or online, your registration must be received by October 18.
- To submit your voter registration in person, you must visit a polling place and register by October 25.
What do I need to bring to vote?
Please bring a form of ID. Acceptable IDs must have your name and photo. Valid photo IDs include:
- Nebraska driver's license/state ID
- U.S. passport
- Military ID
- Tribal ID
- Hospital, assisted-living facility, or nursing home record
- Nebraska political subdivision ID (state, county, city, school, etc.)
- Nebraska college or university ID
Expired documents will be accepted. You can get a free state ID for voting from the DMV. If you were born in Nebraska and need your birth certificate to get a free state ID, you can get a free certified copy of your birth certificate from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Note: A birth certificate is not a valid form of photo ID.
Voters without ID may be able to vote provisionally.
