Who can register to vote in Montana?
To register to vote in Montana, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Live in Montana and your election district for at least 30 days before the next election
- Be at least 18 years old on the day of the next election
- Not be judged guilty of a felony (or, if so, have had your civil rights restored)
- Not judged mentally incompetent in a court of law
Can I register to vote on Election Day?
Montana does not offer same-day voter registration, so be sure to submit your voter registration before the deadline.
What are the voter registration deadlines?
- The deadline to register to vote by mail or online is October 7, 2024.
- Early voting and same-day registration may be available. Check with your county election official.
What do I need to bring to vote?
An election judge will request your identification. Some acceptable options include:
- Driver's license
- MT state ID
- Military ID
- Tribal photo ID
- U.S. passport
- MT concealed carry permit
- School district or postsecondary education photo ID
If the elector does not present photo identification, the elector shall present a current ID with name and current address such as:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck or government check
- Notice of confirmation of voter registration or government document
Voters without ID may be able to vote provisionally.
