Mail-in voting
Ballots are mailed to all registered voters in Hawaii. Be sure to register to vote by OCTOBER 28 and mail your ballot before Election Day.

Who can register to vote in Hawaii?
To register to vote in Hawaii, you must be:
- A U.S. citizen
- A Hawaii resident (Residency cannot simply be because of the applicant’s presence in the state, but that residency was acquired with the intent to make Hawaii the person’s legal residence with all the accompanying obligation therein.)
- Be at least 18 years of age by Election Day
- Not convicted of a felony (or, if so, have had your civil rights restored)
- Not judged mentally incompetent in a court of law
Can I register to vote on Election Day?
Yes! Hawaii offers same-day voter registration. Visit a voter service center on Election Day, November 5, to register.
What are the voter registration deadlines?
- To register to vote by mail, your registration must be postmarked by October 28, 2024.
- Voters may register online at any time or in-person at a voter service center.
- Hawaii also offers same-day voter registration on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
What do I need to bring to vote?
Hawaii does not require ID to vote in person. Voters are encouraged to bring ID with them to facilitate check in at the voting center, but voters who do not bring ID can have their identity verified without it. If a voter chooses to show ID, they can use an unexpired photo ID such as:
- Hawaii driver’s license
- Hawaii state ID card
- Military identification
- US passport or passport card
You can also provide a non-photo ID document that shows your name and address such as:
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Paycheck
- Government document
If you do not bring ID, you might instead be asked to recite your name, address, and date of birth. If this information matches the poll book, you may vote a regular ballot. You can also have another registered voter confirm your identity.
